Building Official
Located in Orange County, the City of Anaheim (population 358,000) is one of the nation’s premier municipalities and California’s 10th most populous city. Anaheim is a modern, diverse city with a proud history dating back to its 1857 founding. Anaheim is known worldwide as the home of the Disneyland Resort, including Walt Disney’s original Disneyland Park, as well as Angel Stadium—home of Angels baseball, Honda Center and the Anaheim Ducks, and the Anaheim Convention Center—the largest on the West Coast. Anaheim is also known as the City of Kindness, promoting a culture of kindness to build a stronger, more connected community. The City is seeking a progressive leader and creative problem solver with strong interpersonal and managerial skills to serve as the new Building Official. The City is looking for someone who possesses a balance of technical skills and personal attributes and is willing to make a long-term commitment to the team. The ideal candidate will be someone who has a sound working knowledge of the various codes that govern the building profession and is adept at finding creative but code-compliant solutions to the challenges that are often presented in the plan check and inspection process. The City is seeking a proven administrator that can effectively lead a diverse group of professionals and has demonstrated experience working with budgets. He or she will be diplomatic and politically astute, yet apolitical. At minimum, candidates must possess six (6) years of increasingly responsible building related experience including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility in a planning and/or construction environment supplemented by a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, construction management, urban planning, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Possession of registration as a Certified Building Official and a valid California driver’s license are required. The annual salary range for the incoming Building Official is $115,404 - $158,681, DOQ.
